Target group:
Technicians who seek Level 1 or Level 2 ISO 23678 certificates.
Pre-requisites:
To hold or be working towards a nationally recognized qualification in engineering or mechanics, but not unduly excluding similar qualifications.
Aim:
The goal of the initial service technician training is to qualify technicians for either Level 1 training, a Level 2 assessment, or to enable them to act as assistants in the software, where they can properly document their field experience.
Objectives:
The programme ensures that candidates can:
Familiarize themselves with key terminology and equipment.
Describe the functions and roles of maritime and offshore organizations in relation to manufacturer/ASP operations.
Identify the types, components, design and construction requirements of lifeboats (including free-fall), rescue boats and fast rescue boats, plus their on-load release gear and launching appliances.
Explain the principal causes of lifeboat and rescue-boat accidents.
State the roles and responsibilities of a manufacturer/ASP service technician.
Locate and apply relevant legislation, industry guidelines, rules, regulations and conventions.
Outline the procedures for maintenance, thorough examination, operational testing, repair and overhaul of the equipment listed above.
Compile the required reports and records.
Demonstrate safe working practices in a simulated work environment.
Certificate:
Initial Service Technician Certificate – valid 3 years.
