Overview:

Level 2 competence re-assessment can be carried out either in-field or in a controlled Environment. In the case of existing Level 2 certificate holders, the assessment consists of a combination of infield experience verification and an observational assessment carried out at the CRALOG Academy. In the case of non-Level 2 certificate holders a pre-requisite evaluation is undertaken followed by a full observational assessment at the CRALOG Academy. Units:

· E-learning; ISO 23678 Part 4 (Level 2) Assessment Introduction. · Unit 1; Work, health and safety issues while conducting activities on board. · Unit 2; Annual inspection, maintenance, thorough examinations, repair and operational test for lifeboats, rescue boats, fast rescue boats launching appliances and release gear. · Unit 3; 5 yearly thorough examination, overhaul and operational overload test for lifeboats, rescue boats, fast rescue boats, their launching appliances and release gear.

Target group:

· Technicians who hold a Level 2 certificate that can demonstrate over the certificate lifespan that they have maintained the required level of experience and competency to qualify for a level 2 re-assessment or: · Experienced technicians who have successfully completed a manufacturer’s established training programme.. Pre-requisites: To be assessed against the competence statements contained within ISO 23678 Part 4, candidates shall be deemed competent in accordance with the requirements of ISO 23678-2 and ISO 23678-3 and: · Have successfully completed Initial and Level 1 Service Technician controlled environment technical education and training: or · Provide evidence to verify a satisfactory level of previous experience. Experienced service technicians can be certified by successfully completing a competence assessment providing they have supporting evidence of completing Service Technician Level 1, CRALOG training certificateor a manufacturer’s established certification program accompanied by sufficient infield work experience. Supporting evidence may include training logs, previous reports, photographs, or videos covering the range of systems. In this case the technician must be able to demonstrate that they have the required verifiable previous experience, by having attended established OEM training programmes accompanied by sufficient evidence such as work reports that cover various types of equipment for which they need to be certified for.

Aim:

To assess a person infield against the competence statements contained within ISO 23678:2022 Part 4 for each make, types, models and series for which they can carry out the SOLAS periodic inspections for.

Objectives: A person shall demonstrate they have:

  • The practical skills to carry out the annual and 5 year SOLAS periodic inspections.
  • The underpinning knowledge to carry out the annual and 5 year SOLAS periodic inspections.

Certificate:

Competent Level 2 Certificate – valid 3 years from date of issue.
